Today is my best friend's birthday. She is turning "older than she wanted to still be single." She doesn't have a husband to gush about her on Facebook or take her out for dinner.
I wish that we lived closer together. If we did, you know I would be taking her out for some good fun tonight and making her the best cake ever! But I'm not there and the best I can do is Skype her while we watch the Olympics.
And of course, write about her (or rather to her) on my blog.
Heidi,
There is no one else quite like you.
You are one of the most amazing people I know. You are smart, beautiful, sassy, funny, creative, entertaining, and compassionate. You are such a hard worker. You pour your heart and soul into people. You care about the world around you. You are sophisticated and poised, but you can also let go and just be really silly.
I am so proud of you. I'm proud of the success you have had professionally. I am proud of the good choices you continue to make in your personal life. I'm proud of how much you desire to grow in your faith. I'm proud of your willingness to try new things and your desire to travel and see new things. I'm proud of you for being brave and trying big things on your own, like home ownership. I'm proud of how you deal with difficult relationships.
When I feel depressed about being single, you are the first person I call. Well, email (as you know, I don't call people). I know if I was in trouble, you would drop everything. You are always there when I need you.
I love that we love so many of the same things. I love that we can fangirl over British shows and Jane Austen movies. I can't wait to travel with you.
I am so grateful to call you my friend. You definitely win the gold medal in the sport of friendship, in my humble opinion. No one else understands my life quite like you do.
I love you so much, dear friend. I cannot imagine what my life would be like without you in it. (Much more depressing, at the very least).
Happy Birthday! Hopefully by your next one, you'll have someone to text when your plane lands. But if you don't, you will still be one of the best people I've ever met.
Everyone should be so lucky to have a Heidi.
Love,
Joy
